Pie-Eyed Piper Noel Leads Way

Noel Gallagher partied hard after the Q Awards . . . and told me he had never had so much to celebrate.

I was lucky enough to be invited to the biggest bash of the year at London’s Met Bar after the ceremony on Monday.

Noel was loving his new role as elder statesman with adoring younger stars following him there, rather than heading for the official aftershow do.

Only last week the Oasis legend told me he was after my Caner Of The Year title too.

And he certainly proved a worthy contender.

He headed off on the party path as soon as the awards finished at 4pm, followed by his star-studded entourage like a modern-day Pied Piper. And he was still going strong right up until the bitter, booze-drenched end, finally staggering off with his girlfriend Sara Macdonald at 2.30am.

The party was like music heaven. Crammed on to the tiny dancefloor were Noel and Sara, Paul Weller, Mani from Primal Scream and the lads from Arctic Monkeys, The Kooks and Kasabian.

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw them all pogo-ing away together. The DJ played tracks by The Jam, The Stone Roses, Sex Pistols, The Beatles and The Specials — and they were all dancing away like kids at a disco.

Girls Aloud ligger Sarah Harding and Amelle and Heidi from Sugababes were also there paying tribute to Noel.

But unlike his brother Liam — who stayed away — Noel didn’t display a shred of arrogance. He admitted he was reeling after winning the Classic Songwriter Award and picking up Oasis’ gong for Best Act In The World Today.

He told me: “I could not be happier with my life.

“Sara is my best friend in the world.

“And even better, I get on really well with her parents. Her dad is a Rangers fan so I ring him to wind him up when they are losing.”

Before Noel’s Q do, the Met Bar had fallen out of favour with the cool crowd.

But now it has come full circle — and on Monday it hosted one of the best parties I’ve ever been to.

Treasured moments include seeing Mani’s brilliant dance moves when Fools Gold by his former band Stone Roses came on.

Paul Weller also managed to still look cool when his hit Town Called Malice blasted out.

But not even this cast of class acts could challenge Noel’s status as the Godfather Of Rock.

He is the man the new generation of music stars look up to.

Noel, we salute you.

I’M thinking of dubbing party animals Noel, Arctic Monkey’s star Jamie Cook and Kasabian’s Tom Meighan the new Goodfellas. I’ve shown how they’d look in the famous film poster. The original movie said: “Murderers come with smiles.”

These boys just come with pints.
