Gallaghers For Letterkenny - 'Definitely, Maybe'

Anticipation was building this week that two famous musical Gallaghers from Manchester might turn up in Letterkenny to join the world record clan gathering attempt on Sunday.

Organisers of the bid to be entered in the Guinness Book of Records for the biggest clan gathering were tight lipped about the possibility of Oasis stars Noel and Liam Gallagher coming to Letterkenny.

They are among the 10,000 Gallaghers from across the world who were contacted in advance of Sunday's record attempt at LYIT.

The only clue to the possible attendance of the musical duo was when Liam Gallagher told a reporter that he would have to cut short his summer holiday to go to a family gathering in Ireland!

The existing holders of a last name gathering in the Guinness Book of Records is the Jones clan from Wales. They managed to gather 1,224 Joneses together to take the record.

Speaking this week Secretary Adrian Gallagher was encouraging all Gallaghers to come to LYIT on Sunday between 1.30 and 5pm.

Niall Gibbons, Director of Corporate Services & Policy with Tourism Ireland said the Gallagher Clan Gathering presented a great opportunity to promote this part of the island of Ireland to prospective visitors in British market.

"It's a fantastic idea and we wish the family the best of luck in their attempt to break the world record," he added.
