It has been a remarkable year for Aimee Ann Duffy
From nowhere to No 1, the Bangor-born soul singer has managed to win over the UK with her soulish sound, quirky looks and unique vocals.
The cheers when she took the stage were breathtaking, and though she dances with all the grace of a Thunderbirds puppet, Manchester was charmed.
Her mannered vibrato on the likes of Rockferry, Rain On Your Parade and the ubiquitous Mercy had the Mancs roaring, and there was even a cover of Oasis classic Wonderwall as an encore.
Duffy’s bantering with the crowd occasionally fell short.
But it’s clear the slightly kooky blonde in the little dress is enjoying the spotlight.
Whatever 2009 might bring, these moments will remain precious ones.
