B-Side Of The Week: A New Oasis Track!

After last week's electropop bonanza from The Saturdays, we're changing things up a bit on B-side of the week. Rather than surging synths and thundering choruses, we've opted for the raw and psychedelic flipside to Oasis's new single 'Falling Down'.

It's called 'Those Swollen Hand Blues' and it's a welcome breather from the band's recent run of stadium-filling rock numbers and conventional ballads. Noel, on lead vocals here, seems to have taken a trip to a forest filled with purple trees and giant bouncing bunnies, plonked himself down on a stump of wood and begun pondering life's more pressing issues. "Life is like a rollercoaster," he sings, presumably not quoting Ronan Keating. "I can't find the birds or the bees, hope they're down the back of the sofa."

Bearing a passing resemblance to 'Sittin' Here In Silence (On My Own)', the B-side to the band's 2005 hit 'Let There Be Love', there's something strangely reassuring about this track. It shows that after 15 years in the music industry, Oasis can still craft intriguing, slightly weird tunes that aren't written solely to sell out stadium tours and fund their pension schemes. The full version is available on the 'Falling Down' CD single, out Monday, but for now click here for a 30-second taster.
