Extra Metros For Oasis And Take That Gigs

Huge traffic management plans are under way to cut out chaos as thousands travel to see Take That and Oasis.

To cater for the thousands of people who will be travelling to the Stadium of Light to see the two acts, Sunderland AFC has teamed up with Sunderland City Council, Nexus and Northumbria Police to ensure the roads run smoothly.

SAFC has given cash to Nexus so it can keep the Metro running until 1am when Take That play on Friday and Saturday and Oasis the following week.

The council is also putting on a park and park and ride service to help fans get to and from the gigs.

Gary Hutchinson, SAFC's concert project manager, said: "The club has worked hard to ensure the provision of safe, effective and efficient transport options for the thousands of concert-goers who will be flooding into the city."

Nexus boss Bernard Garner added: "The extra Metro services will be vital and mean people can park throughout the Metro network in Tyne and Wear to get to the stadium."

The bus park and ride service, costing £5 per car, will run on all three concert dates from Fulwell Quarry, the location used for the Sunderland Air Show park and ride service, to the stadium from noon to 8pm and 11pm to 12.30am.

Traffic travelling along the A19 from the south will be signposted along the A1018 to the southern radial route into the city centre.

All city centre car parks will be open 24 hours, including Debenhams' multi-storey car park.
