Police Warning: Behave At V Festival Or You’re Out

Tens of thousands of revellers heading to this year’s V Festival are being warned: “behave or face eviction”.

With headliners including the mighty Oasis, The Killers, Elbow and Snow Patrol, a whopping 180,000 music fans are expected to flock to the two-day festival at Weston Park at Weston-under-Lizard, on the Staffordshire/Shropshire border.

But Staffordshire Police is determined that the August 22 and 23 event will remain trouble free.

The force’s Chief Inspector Pete Owen, who is one of the event’s commanders, said: “A trouble-free environment is Staffordshire Police’s number one priority at this year’s V Festival.

“As in previous years, a premises licence has been granted by the local authority to cover the site from August 21 to 24.

“This means anyone involved in violence, disorder or any other crime faces immediate ejection along with criminal prosecution.”

CI Owen revealed that a “significant number” of uniformed and plain clothed officers would be deployed to keep a close eye on revellers as well as Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras used to scan registration numbers and weed out known offenders as they enter the site as part of a “robust policing plan”.

He said Weston Park would also be covered by “extensive” CCTV coverage.

CI Owen added: “Recorded crime at V Festival again fell last year along with the number of arrests. V has built a national reputation for its low-crime, trouble-free atmosphere and is rightly regarded as one of the safest festivals in the UK.”
