There’s no question the digital era of music has ignited many music fans’ interest in independent record labels, as many influential and historic labels are now getting the book/documentary/box set celebration. Seminal British indie label, Creation Records, is the latest to get its due, and next year Document will release Upside Down, a documentary about the rise and fall of the influential label.
Founder Alan McGee will of course play a major part in the documentary, which will feature interviews with Noel Gallagher, Bobby Gillespie and many more luminaries from the label that first signed heavyweights such as the Jesus And Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Primal Scream, Super Furry Animals and Oasis.
“It's the story of the times," said McGee, according to MOJO. "Where it went right and where it went wrong. I expect it to last two days in the cinema and then do 500,000 DVDs!"
According to Document, Upside Down is still “knee deep in edit but all will be done by mid-January.” It will then hit cinemas, or at least UK cinemas, in March/April 2010, with a host of “very special events” set to go down around the film’s release.
This should incite at least a little nostalgia for those fretting about the recent break-up of Oasis. Or maybe even spark a reunion?
