Noel Gallagher's Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere (Vol.2) Part Eighteen

From Noel Gallagher's 'Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere' tour diary.

I'm pleased to report that there's at least SOMETHING to report from our stop over in Copenhagen.

A lovely place. Wonderful people, so here goes.....

The day started with a trip to national Nordic television. They (whoever "they" are) had me on some breakfast TV show called "Weekend Weekend". So good they named it twice!!!! As you can imagine the show itself was a bit odd. It consisted of a few TV presenter types stood round an elbow high table talking about… well, I'm not quite sure what they was on about as my Danish is a bit rusty these days. It was a bit like that thing that Tim Lovejoy does back in England on a Sunday.

So there's me, some Danish singer-songwriter, a guy who is - and I quote - "Denmark's foremost authority on that holy instrument the Mellotron" (I made the holy bit up), and somewhat predictably...... a celebrity chef, who was gonna cook me an English breakfast.

Now… why is it called an "English" breakfast? Does anyone know?

One of the presenters did refer to the chef as a Michelin star cock at one point!!!! (She meant cook, one would have thought?)

So anyway, after the usual exchanges… you know the ones? They had me and the Mellotron expert stood round a Mellotron and discuss the virtues - of which there are many - of that wonderful piece of machinery. We discussed great Mellotron moments in rock ie. Nights In White Satin, Strawberry Fields, etc…

Now why any of this would be interesting to your average Nordic breakfast telly punter is beyond me but, y'know… whatever. The show was rounded off with a Beatles quiz!!

The gig was in some concert hall. Incredible place. It was like playing inside a hexagonal wooden box. Beautiful.

We played in the round and I must say, it was mega. Being totally surrounded by a load of Nordic beauties is good gear, let me tell you.

At one point a little lad ambled onstage!! He was only 5 years old!! Just think of how many t-shirts he could potentially buy in his lifetime!!! I think his dad sensed a photo opp' in between songs and shoved him up there. Charlie, his name was (I think). He was from Manchester, I believe!!

A top, top night. My favourite gig of the entire tour so far. Well done.

You find me back in Germany. Cologne, to be exact.

Looking forward to getting hold of the Sunday papers. City bagged another 5 goals yesterday. We are struttin' at the minute. None more so than Super Mario, who scored the goal of the season so far. Check it out, it's hilarious. That kid kills me.

In a bit.

GD.

Hi Noel,

I saw you in the show weekend weekend. However, you didnt seem very interested in the questions, the food or anything. Cheer up and be a bit more nice to people. Im sure this will help you sell more of your music.

Have a nice day

Cook in danish is Kok, pronounced Cock :)

Hi Noel!

The Mellotron-expert is one of the biggest artists here in Denmark. His group actually made a song called 11.07 P.M., and I believe it's about the murder of John Lennon. Still, I like the interview. A bit odd, however, but very good. You seem like a very down-to-earth kind of guy!

Also: I loved Oasis. Such a shame you guys broke up!

Okay she made a mistake. Cook in danish is kok, which reminds a lot of cock. She diden't say cock, but the danish word: kok.
Stop complaining about the TV-show. The TV-show is very popular in Denmark, so maybe its you there is a but odd.

Thanks for a great night, with stunningly beautiful music. We enjoyed every second - even if we were sitting right behind the guy who, during the night, threw all his clothes so he finally stood only in underpants. A sore sight from our point of view, but it gave some funny pictures on our phones ;-)

Anyway ... We hope you visit Denmark again sometime, and if so we'll see you definitely.

Wish you a fantastic holiday and a happy new year.

No one in Denmark likes "Weekend Weekend" either. ;P
It's a new show.
I don't think it'll be on for many seasons.

Saw you in Weekend Weekend, and let me be honest. That show is totally waste of a good weekend morning television. It was not your fault that the show sucks, it has always done that, since its premiere 4 weeks earlier. Your present in the show was okay, but the show needs a point. Sorry you had that experience in Danish television, hope it did not scare you away.

P.S. Sorry for my English, it’s not better than the female journalist you are referring too.

That singersongwriter you were on the show with is actually worth checking out...especially the earlier stuff.. Tim Christensen is the name..

Cock (Danish: kok) is the Danish word for cook :)

From my point of view Noel was sarcastic (which the presenters didn't catch at all) and politely said no to the breakfast (and snaps)... The whole thing was a bit awkward and Noel just went along trying to get something out of all the chaos... It is actually still 'a story' in the newspapers today: How bad and awkward the three presenters are/were...

What can you actually do to please the great Noel Gallagher. The answer is absolutely nothing and one can hope that you have been sleeping well, when you approach the computer.
About the program: I remember I wrote an update on my Facebook Wall (in danish) about Weekend Weekend: "Switched over to the BBC and watched a documentary about Magaret Thatcher and was more entertained."
